
Signature Life Hotels and its Hotel School, the Institute of Hospitality Studies is pleased to announce the opening of applications for its 2012 Hospitality Management and Culinary courses.
The Signature Life Institute of Hospitality Studies (SLIHS) is a training initiative that aims to develop aspirant young people who wish to enter into the hospitality industry by offering them an in-service training programme over a three year period.
Applicants are invited to submit a letter of motivation, brief CV, copy of matric certificate or results and a colour photograph to us as soon as possible. Trainees will be selected to participate in one of the following programmes:
Hospitality Management Programme
OR
Culinary Management Programme
Management Trainees will be exposed to all aspects of the hotel operation during the three year period including the kitchen. The practical part of the course is based on ten months a year so as to make provision for academics, examinations and leave. Trainees will spend time in each of the following areas: Front Office Night Audit, Reservations, Guest Services, Housekeeping, Restaurant, Bar, Banqueting Service and Coordination, Kitchen, Accounts, Maintenance and Security.
At the end of the three years, with exams passed trainees will receive an internationally recognized Diploma but supported by relevant National Qualifications from the South African National Qualifications Framework (NQF).The trainees will be recruited on a three year contract with a base hotel in our group, during which time they work in the hotel on a full time basis, however we will have two academic intakes each year, the next midyear intake is 2012.
There is no age limit for applicants however the programme is primarily aimed at school leavers and individuals who have been on gap years or overseas extended working holidays. However applicants who have been working in the industry and now want to support their experience with a recognised qualification will be welcomed.

Applicants will be asked to submit the following: Motivation letter -why they want to study the course and enter the hospitality industry. A CV or portfolio of evidence of achievements in the industry or in a school catering or hospitality environment. Copy of ID or foreign passport with student VISA.
All trainees receive a monthly allowance inclusive of all statutory items uniforms, staff meals where applicable, transportation and/or accommodation to academic tutorials if the training venue is greater than 40km from the trainees base hotel 18 working days leave annually 1 day study leave per examination written inclusive of exam day Trainees will commence in the second week of January and will undergo a three week induction programme prior to commencing at the hotels. The induction will include First Aid, Fire Fighting and a Cape Wine Academy course as well as an overview of the academic process.
